Tom Ploppert is relatively new on the knife making scene but you would never know it from the quality fit and finish of his work. Tom is a part time maker specializing in traditional style knives, he made his first slip joint in 2009 and won the "Best New Maker" award at the 2012 Blade Show. His mentor was Bill Ruple and he so studied under Tony Bose. Tony, Tom and I were together at the Feb. 2016 Arkansas show when Tom delivered this knife to me. Tony was nothing but compliment try of Tom's work. This is Tom's first 4 Blade Congress. This piece is exceptional, it features rare antique Remington Bone scales, hand rubbed satin finished baldes of CPM 154 steel that has been heat treated, cryo treated and tempered twice, they pivot on C630 nickel, aluminum, bronze bushings, the springs and pivot pins are also CPM 154 and the integral liners are hardened 416, the middle liner is 410 SS, all liners have a relief cut to prevent blade scrape marks.
